Please share a memory of Simona-Maria to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Simona-Maria Monica (Acosta) Sandoval, a long time Burlington resident, passed away unexpectedly on May 3, 2023. Simona was born on December 2, 1979, in Denver, Colorado to German and Maxine (Castro) Acosta. Simona spent her early years in Denver and attended Annunciation Catholic School. She enjoyed the time she spent with her mother and father in the garden as well as many activism events they rallied for. Her family moved to Burlington when she was a young teenager. It was in Burlington that she graduated and met many of her lifelong friends. Simona could often be found with her friends on the weekends cruising Main Street with her music as loud as it could be. Simona graduated from Burlington High School in May of 1998. Shortly after, in 1999, she met her love Richard Sandoval Jr. and began her family. Their first child and only son, Angel in August of 1999. Their three daughters Maxine, Katiri and Chayin followed. Everyone can agree that Simona never knew a stranger. She was friendly and approachable and made friends with anyone and everyone she met. She took the time to enjoy even the small things like camping and doing makeup. She became a CNA and enjoyed her time working with the elderly in their homes. She had a caregiver’s heart her entire life. That shone through with how she also cared for her family. She loved spending time with her husband, children and grandchildren, often cooking for them and playing with them. Simona’s spirituality was especially important to her. She found much peace in praying, reading her Bible and just simply enjoying a good novel although Readers Digest was one of her favorite reads. These hobbies were not enough to keep her from her love of Bingo night! Her departure is an unimaginable loss to her family and her friends. Simona is preceded in death by her mother, Maxine Castro; brother, Ramon Acosta; son, Angel Sandoval; nephew, Michael Nunez; uncle, Marty Castro and father in law Ricardo Sandoval Sr. Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Richard Sandoval Jr.; daughters, Maxine (Julian) Fuentes, Katiri (Martin) Vela, Chayin (Trey) King; stepdaughter, Nevaeh Martinez and stepson, Jonathon Killian; grandchildren Kehlani and Letty Fuentes, Estella Vela and Amiyah King; sister Amanda Acosta and brother Jacob (Crystal Quintana) Acosta. A visitation will be held for the public at 10 AM, Thursday May 11, at Love Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington with funeral services following at 11 AM. Final Arrangements entrusted to the care of Love Funeral Homes and Monuments in Burlington.
