I am so sorry to hear of Gene’s passing. Most sincere condolences to you, Connie, and your entire family. Gene and I met when I worked at one of the local insurance offices. He was always a joy to visit with. Funny story that speaks to his caring nature…
One Sunday morning during Mass, I got a bit light headed while on my knees. I managed to get out of the pew and safely to the restroom but then passed out. Gene must’ve realized that something was off…(or heard the crash). I came to as he helped me off the floor. Certainly not my best moment, but he didn’t hesitate to barge into the ladies room to come my aid and make certain I was alright. I survived with only hurt pride and embarrassment but I knew I had a true friend in Gene. I bet he’s in charge of ringing the bells in heaven!

Uncle Gene was so loved by my Mom. Her children will always cherish the fond stories between a brother and sister and their adventures. They were very close and he always took care and protected her. I am so sorry and saddened that we can not be there in person, but please know that we are there in spirit with each and everyone of you. Aunt Connie, we are here for you and love you all!
Love,
Your sister and family

My husband and I met Gene and his wife Connie through my daughter, Cindy McCombs, and we came to know them as super people, and were surprised when we found out that we were all married the same year. We felt like they were family and Leo shared stories with Gene and visa versa, so I'm' sure they're both having a good visit in heaven right now. God rest you, Gene!

I first met Gene when my daughter and I moved to Burlington, and he and Connie took us under their wing. Although my own parents weren't that far away, just down the road in Stratton, my job as an EMT with KCCEMS sometimes had me out at all hours, and they were willing for me to call so I could drop my daughter with them while I was on a call. Gene was a substitute dad and grandpa to us, was as willing and available for advice to me as my own father. They were actually two of a kind, and I'm sure that's why I was so comfortable with him. I shall always remember that big grin and warm hello. My sincerest condolences to Connie and family. Eternal rest grant unto you, Gene, and may perpetual light shine on you! Cindy McCombs

I've known Gene I guess since I was born. He and I shared our birthday and he always tried to remember to call me. He and my parents shared a lot of good times and he always made sure to visit when he was close. I inherited those visits when I moved to Garden City as he always came to the 3I show when it was here. He will truly be missed, especially that smile. God speed Gene.
