Virginia Mae Petersen entered the Kingdom of God on October 13, 2022, at the age of 89, at Kit Carson County Memorial Hospital. She was surrounded by loved ones as she departed this life. Virginia Mae Dragoo was born on January 11th, 1933, in Springfield, Colorado. She graduated from Flagler High School in 1951 and went on to attend Providence College of Nursing in Oakland, CA. Virginia met the love of her life, Lawrence "Pete" Petersen. They were married on July 5th, 1953. To this union were born Dovi Lynn, Roy Lee, and Gayle Laurene. After starting a family, Gini continued to pursue her nursing degree, graduating in 1965. She went on to lead a fulfilling nursing career. Gini worked at the Flagler Hospital, Kit Carson Memorial Hospital, Lincoln Community Hospital, and the Carlsbad Medical Center. She also worked for several years as the administrator of Pioneer Valley housing in Flagler. Her most memorable job was the summer she spent at Flagler Lake Outdoor Park as the caretaker. Grandma Gini will always be remembered for taking her grandchildren on many adventures around the country, driving her large teal van any place it could go. Her love of hummingbirds, exploring the southwest Native American ruins, the color turquoise, and spending time with her family will continue to live on with her 3 children, 7 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. A celebration of life will be held on October 22, 2022, at 11 am, Stratton Church of God, 200 New York Ave, Stratton, CO.
