Bobby Phillips

Obituary of Bobby Don Phillips

B. Don Phillips was born to Paul Blanch(Dean) Phillips on December 10, 1928 in Bird City, Kansas. He passed away on December 23, 2020 at the age of 92. He was the 9th child of a family of 14 children. Don resided in Bird City until 1944 when the family moved to a wheat and cattle ranch north of Edson Kansas. It consisted of several wheat, corn and alfalfa fields and 4 large pastures for the cattle. Besides the cattle, there where pigs and chickens. The family had a large garden and their Mother used the egg and cream money for staples that wasn't provided by the land. The pump at the house and the windmill in one of the pastures were drilled by the men of the family. Three of the pastures had Beaver Creek running through them for the cattle. Every year a combine crew would come to cut the wheat and the first year they brought in the self propelled combine was a thrill for all. When he was on the tractor working the fields, you could hear him singing all the way back to the house. He attended one year at the Maple Grove country school while living there. After 5 years, the family moved to a farm south of Bethune Colorado. At that time he entered the army and served in Germany at the end of WWII. After returning to Colorado, he worked the family farm, opened a mechanic shop on Hwy 24 in Bethune and worked for the city of Burlington several years. Due to health reasons he spent the last years of his life in a Care Center in Canon City, Colorado. He is preceded in death by his parents and 11 siblings. He is survived by 2 sisters, Agnes Henderson, Colorado Springs and Clarice Machal-Titus, Raytown Mo and by a host of nieces, and nephews. He will be laid to rest by his parents in Fairview Cemetery, Burlington Colorado. Memorials may be made to the Valley View Healthcare Center in Bobby Don's memory and may be sent in c/o Karl Phillips, PO Box 113, Stamford, NE 68977.
