Obituary of Dean A. Weyerman

Dean Arnold Weyerman, 86, passed away April 18, 2018 at his home in Lake Havasu City, Arizona, one day prior to his birthday.  Dean was born April 19, 1932 in Idalia, Colorado to Arnold and Bertha (Kester) Weyerman.  Dean’s early years were spent on the family farm where he was born.  In 1943, when his mother was diagnosed with cancer, Dean, his sister Catherine along with his mother moved to Iowa to live with Bertha’s sister Alta.  His mother passed away later that year on December 16, 1943.  Following his mother’s death Dean moved back to Idalia for a short time to live with his father before moving to Lafayette to live with his aunt Ann and uncle Hal.  It was not long before he moved back to Idalia to live with the C. L. Brenner family where he continued to live and work on the farm.  During the winters of 1947, ’48, and ’49 Dean returned to Iowa to spend time with his sister.  While in Iowa he worked at various jobs that included working at a dairy, construction on an airport building and shelling corn.

Shortly after being drafted into the U. S. Army on January 5, 1953, Dean arrived for boot camp at Fort Pickett in Blackstone, Virginia. He later received medical training at Fort Sam Houston and Fort Hood before being transferred to a military hospital in Kyoto, Japan.  Here he served until its closure when he was sent to Otsu, Japan to operate the postal service.  Dean was honorably discharged in December 1954.

Following his discharge, Dean returned to his farming activities in Idalia.  The year 1956 brought about a turning point in his life as on May 19th he married Irene Clair in Burlington, Colorado and also went to work for the Colorado Division of Wildlife.  Here he spent the next 8 years working at the Wray Fish Hatchery, Walden Fish Hatchery and the Poudre Canyon Fish Rearing Unit.  In 1964, after being promoted to District Wildlife Manager, he moved to Burlington, Colorado where he served the Burlington District until his retirement in 1990.  During his tenure he taught Hunter Safety Courses to over 3500 school students.  After retirement he worked part-time as a rural postal carrier.  In October of 2014 Dean & Irene sold their home in Burlington and moved to Lake Havasu City, Arizona where Dean remained up until his death.

Besides his parents, Arnold and Bertha, Dean, was preceded in death by his sister Catherine Bergman. 

He is survived by his wife Irene of 62 years of Lake Havasu City, AZ; daughter Betty Talamantez and husband Roy of Burlington, CO, son Ray Weyerman and wife Marcy of Greeley, CO; 5 grandchildren Crystal Cranmer and husband Billy, Casey Good and husband Roy, April Merk and husband Jared, Greg Weyerman and wife Kristy and Jeffrey Weyerman; 8 great-grandchildren; Courtney, Brittney, Kye, Jacob, Isabella, Corbin, Connor and Tayvin.
