Obituary of Joseph F. Berens

Longtime Bethune, Colorado Joseph Fiedeleis Berens passed away on March 31, 2018 at his home in Aurora, Colorado.  He was 85 years old.

Joe was born on June 25, 1932 to Herman Fiedeleis and Elizabeth Veronica (Staab) Berens in Walker, Kansas.  He was one of twelve children born to this union.

He attended school in Walker, Kansas, until June 1, 1943 when the Berens family moved to Bethune Colorado.  There, Joe attended school in Bethune, and later graduated high school in Burlington.  Growing up, he loved sports, especially basketball and baseball, as well as hunting and fishing.  He remained an avid outdoorsman, and passed this onto his two boys.

In 1968, Joe was married.  Two sons were born of this union, Ronald Joseph and Timothy Joseph.

Joe lived on the family farm his entire life where he raised cattle and farmed.   Joe also helped organize local baseball, softball and basketball leagues in the Kit Carson area.

Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his family, his two boys and his two grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Elizabeth, seven brothers, Ralph, Pat, Ben, Earl, Kenneth, Elmer, Melvyn and four sisters, Arlene, Esther, Katherine and Marie.

Those left to cherish his memories are his two sons, Ron and Tim, his grandchildren, Wyatt Joseph, and Vivian Marie, sister-in-Law, Dawn and numerous nieces, nephews, and the many friends he made throughout his life.
